Trail Angels

As we’re all aware, over the past several weeks Guilford has been battered with a series of late winter storms that have caused major problems with our roads and utilities. Unseen by many is the extensive damage done to the miles of trails we have in Guilford.

Recent damage is on the same scale inflicted by hurricanes Irene and Sandy. As the Westwoods Trails Committee begins its clean-up effort, we first want to thank the many volunteers who have already been out clearing the trails. These are people from our local hiking, biking, and running communities who don’t just step around the branches but clear them and make the trails passable for us all. Our land trust calls them “trail angels,” and we truly appreciate how much of the work they’re doing and thank them for pitching in to keep our trails clear.

We ask that trail angels and any others interested in helping with the cleanup effort in Westwoods, Bluff Head, or anywhere around town please coordinate with our Stewardship Committee by sending us an email through the Guilford Land Conservation Trust website www.guilfordlandtrust.org so that we are as efficient as possible.
