What are the Kids Doing?

How often have we heard or even used the expression “Where are the kids and what are they doing?” I just had an experience that can answer that age-old question. On Friday, March 9, Families Helping Families was honored to be chosen as the charity to receive a donation from the Swoosh for Change event at The Morgan School.

Events like this don’t just happen; they require lots of advance planning and coordination to make sure the event and all the activities around the event go as planned. So that means countless hours are spent in the months and weeks leading up to an event like this. I’m here to report the members of the Husky Leadership Program did an outstanding job.

Considering that many of them and their families were dealing with the effects of a major snow storm and resulting power outages, they should be commended on how well the event turned out. It seemed like members of the Leadership Program were everywhere, making sure that tables were set up, directing people where to go, selling tickets, and getting the featured basketball game between staff and students started on time. I can tell you that their goal of having a positive impact in the community was definitely reached that night.

Thinking back after the game, I wondered if some of the members of the Husky Leadership Program were the same students who learned lessons about sharing, caring, and giving back at the Joel School years ago. I think they probably were. There’s just one difference: They are not kids anymore, they are young adults having a very positive impact on our Clinton community. So I know where the young adults (kids) are and am very proud of what they are doing.
