03/21/2018 08:00 AMRecently Clinton and our shoreline neighbors were hit hard by two major winter storms within one week.
During Storm Elsa, many people worked tirelessly to the secure safety, comfort, and expedite power restoration to Clinton residents and businesses.
I would like to personally thank these men and women for their selfless efforts. They are all true-blue Clintonians who stepped up to help our families, friends, and neighbors when we needed it most. Here’s a glimpse of what went on behind the scenes:
Mike Neff volunteered as the interim emergency management director (EMD) literally the day before the storm hit. Department of Public Works (DPW) Director Pete Neff, Clinton Police Department (CPD) Chief Vincent DeMaio, Clinton Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) Chief Brian Manware, DPW staff, CPD, CVFD and the emergency services team worked 36 hours straight to clear the roads and secure safety where lines were down.
Morgan School administrators and staff Maryann O’Donnell, Keri Hagness, John Siciliano, Vivian Capestany, Frank Rossi, Donna Donofrio, and Pedro Irizarry jumped to open the school for a warming center, and provide hot meals and showers to the residents of Clinton.
Volunteers Lisa Alberino, Ed Alberino, Carol Schmardel, Norimar Lopez, and Phoebe Young conducted wellness checks at the homes without power.
Clinton Lions Club members Meg Wright and Betty Lou Rush manned the warming center at The Morgan School, while Miner Vincent with Families Helping Families contributed breakfast. Many others came to help that day, including Kathleen Skoczen, Andrea Woliver, Jane Scully Welch, Carol Walter, Phil Sengle, Aman Singh, and Tim Guerra.
Eversource line crews and liaisons provided constant updates to our EMD and administration and worked to expedite power service to the most vulnerable.
We are all grateful for their dedication and service.
