Would Be Very Naive

I would like to respond to some letters to the editor that appeared in the Feb. 22 edition.

The letters point out we need senior housing in our community and one [Lenore Salvati, “A Substantial Benefit”] said there will be no expense to the town for snow removal, trash pickup, or storm drain maintenance. One letter also states we will receive $1,000,000 in taxes from the construction of these apartments [Paul Falanga, “Much-Needed and Positive”].

However, the letters do not mention the additional cost of fire, police, and other first responders that will have to be provided to the complex, whether it’s private or publicly owned.

If our school system is already over-burdened, I think it would be very naive to think there will be no school children coming from the proposed 400-plus units to be built due to the fact only one resident of each unit has to be aged 55 or older.

In addition, traffic having to make a left-hand turn into or a left-hand turn leaving the complex would pose a greater driving hazard then already exists along Route 80 now. In addition to the Tilcon trucks there is also a trucking company less than one-quarter mile from the entrance whose trucks are coming and going along that section of route 80, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, thus increasing the chance of a traffic incident.

The letters don’t mention the blasting that would be done. There are approximately 75 homes, two public schools, and a church whose foundations are tied to the ledge the applicant has to blast to construct this project.

I am totally against this project.
