A Much Safer Place

I am writing to express concern about the neglect of bicycle paths in Guilford, Branford, and Madison. With traffic calming, speed bumps, street painting, and other progressive measures, our beautiful shoreline could be a much safer place for those of us who find biking enjoyable, convenient, and a good form of exercise. As has been shown in towns and cities around the world, this is a case of “if you build them, they will come.” Better bike lanes slow down speeding cars and trucks and bring out many more cyclists.

We have a car and I also enjoy going out for a stroll, but our towns do not have nearly enough safe sidewalks or bike paths. With a shared commitment to respect and safety to all modes of transport, we can do a lot better.

These are challenging times for Connecticut’s economy. Making the shoreline a more attractive place to live for new families (many of which like biking) is also a smart move for the future tax base.
