The Way This World Is

My name is Michelle Roberts, and I have been a resident of the Town of East Haven for 17 years. Last July I came up with a idea to make a holiday sign stating “Happy Holidays and Winter Solstice to all Religions—Blessed be to All” for the upcoming season to show the unity of all religions in our town, which I thought would be a wonderful thing, especially in this time and the way this world is today.

But as I tried to contact the town mayor on countless times and different ways, I never even got the courtesy of a return call from him. I ended up contacting News Channel 8 and I finally got a call that same day from someone from the mayor’s office stating that they talked to me about this, which was false. He ended up ending the conversation stating, “Nobody would want this.”

I and many others in this town and surrounding towns can’t understand why this is being stopped. There are other religious symbols that are celebrated on our Town Green. I am very grateful to the people who have supported me and feel the same as me.

I am hoping and wishing that there is no opposition for me to post this on our Town Green during the next holiday season. For those many who feel the same as me, I encourage them to please help and voice their thoughts to our mayor.
