A Unique Outlook

As a senior at Daniel Hand High School who has attended all 13 years of Madison Public schools, I have a unique outlook on the town. My parents moved here from Stratford in search of a better school system for me and my two older brothers. They had to sacrifice so much to get us here, but speaking for my brothers and myself, it was definitely worth it.

From kindergarten on I was exposed to fantastic programs, especially in the arts, taught by kind and well qualified teachers. Because of the encouragement from teachers and their genuine care for my wellbeing, I have developed into a passionate learner. Our superintendent of schools, Tom Scarice, is an extremely well qualified, compassionate man whom I have met several times through various projects. He strives to understand young people and know exactly what their specific needs are based on generational challenges. Through this knowledge he has made several thoughtful and unique changes to the way we learn.

Recently the attendance of students enrolled in Madison public schools has dropped drastically to the point where they are closing down a school. Not as many families are choosing to raise their kids here. I don’t understand this. I urge any families looking for a new home to consider Madison. It is a town of hardworking individuals whose value of education bind them together, not to mention it is quaint while still having a variety of ways to entertain oneself, whether it be the beach, sporting events, hiking, and more.

My only wish for this town is the Daniel Hand’s future graduating classes of 2030 and beyond, that they would be a large group of lifelong learners who never take the benefits Madison has given them for granted.

Madison
