Just the Beginning

I am writing to thank the voters of Guilford for their confidence in electing me to the Board of Selectmen. I commit to working for the best interests of Guilford, together with our new first selectman Matt Hoey and the entire Board of Selectmen. Guilford is a great town and this election shows that people have confidence that we are on the right track. That does not mean that there are still not difficult challenges ahead—to the contrary, we must be vigorous in meeting the expectations of the community to deliver the best local government possible.

I want to thank the many people who worked on the campaign. The list is far too numerous to mention any individuals, but for everyone who staffed the office, knocked on doors, made phone calls, attended debates, wrote letters, and placed lawn signs, I say thank you!

Finally, I want to extend congratulations to all of the candidates who ran for office this year. Our system of representation depends on the battle of ideas that the campaign season brings, in many cases, directly to our doorsteps. While not everyone can win every race, the ideas that are brought to the fore can very often be just the beginning of community discussions that will benefit all of us in the future.
