Thanks for the Wonderful Support

On behalf of Team MAD and the Steam Train Half Marathon & Relay, I would like to thank the runners who participated in the Steam Train Half Marathon & Relay on Oct. 28 and the spectators who came out to cheer them on. I would also like to thank the Valley Railroad for the use of its facilities and sending out a stiff challenge for the runners. I’d also like to thank the more than 50 volunteers who donated their time, this event could not have happened without them.

Team MAD is grateful for the support of sponsors Jon Lorensen’s Old Saybrook Hyundai and Genoa Pharmacy; without these corporate sponsors we would not have had the ability to bring everyone this event.

Special thanks go to the Essex and Deep River police, fire, and highway departments and Olsen’s Sanitation; to Samantha Roberts for singing our national anthem; to Red House for beer; Pizzeria Da Vinci for pizza; and Adams supermarket for bananas and water.

We are grateful for the cooperation of all those along the race course, and apologize for the inconvenience the event might have presented. I hope residents will take pride in the fact that their community has helped us donate much-needed funds to Community Health Resources, which will improve the lives of fellow Connecticut residents. We will take all feedback into account as we strive to bring a better and less intrusive event next year. We are excited about the opportunity to work with your communities to make this one of the most successful charitable races in Connecticut. Once again, thanks for the wonderful support we hope we continue to enjoy each year from the Essex and Deep River communities.
