Broke All Records

I would like to thank everyone who came out to support Morgan REACT’s Haunted Hallways on Oct. 29. We broke all of our earning records, raising more than $1,500 to benefit our substance-free program and Clinton Social Services.

Haunted Hallways is 100 percent high school student planned and run. The adult advisors help the more than 100 students navigate decision making, but the members choose a theme, break into hallway groups of 10 to 15 students, plan a plot or story, construct props, decorate the halls, do their own makeup, and buy their own costumes. They plan for roughly six weeks together before the actual event. On the day of the event, students volunteer for the entire day. They arrive at Morgan as early as 9 a.m., and begin the set up. The students stay all day, preparing, executing the scares, then cleaning up the building as a group. They do all of this on their time—totally volunteer, totally driven by their energy and decisions.

The majority of the time, things go smoothly! We use any bumps in the process to learn leadership and life lessons such as cooperation, adaptability, flexibility, communication skills, and making of new friends. REACT is composed of students with all sorts of interests and talents and includes members of every grade. Seniors and freshmen work together and form bonds that make the school climate at Morgan friendly, supportive, and welcoming. It is a very positive experience.

I am very proud of Morgan REACT students every year for their leadership and energy. I am blessed to have the role as their advisor and mentor. Thanks go to all my REACT members, their families, and the Clinton community for empowering each other and making Morgan and Clinton a pretty awesome place.
