Prudent Financial Stewardship

Our current Republican administration has served Guilford faithfully by working hard to mitigate the tax burden while maintaining services. I’m the first to acknowledge its many accomplishments, but as an individual who believes we can strive to do more, I ask, “Does Guilford have an opportunity to usher in an even better era?”

I truly believe that opportunity is knocking at our door! And I mean literally knocking at our doors. If Ken MacKenzie, candidate for first selectman, has not already visited your readers’ homes or talked with them about our town, they may be living under a rock.

I have been involved with town government for a decade and in that time I haven’t met a more sincere and devoted public servant as I have seen in MacKenzie. His agenda is purely and simply to make Guilford a better place to live for every resident. He has shared with me his analysis of many town issues and I’m consistently impressed with the level of consideration he applies. His willingness to invest his time and energy into every challenge that we face transcends.

While serving on the Board of Finance, Ken has also proven he is fiscally conservative. He is not satisfied with the status quo, either. Instead I see him working tirelessly to eliminate waste and identify when tax dollars aren’t being spent wisely. This propensity towards prudent financial stewardship is desperately needed given our state budget woes and their potential impact on Guilford.

Ken’s independent thinking is also something to be applauded. I know personally that he never reaches conclusions without examining every angle and hearing every voice. His professional experience and town service speak for themselves.

What most makes MacKenzie stand out is his passion for transparent, open, and accountable government.
