Maturity, Experiences, and Background

I’m Anselmo Delia, a candidate for judge of probate of the Saybrook Court. My reasons for seeking this office are simple. The office would allow me to combine my desire to serve the greater community while also allowing me to continue in my chosen profession, no longer as a practicing lawyer, instead as decision-maker applying the law I love and have studied and practiced for more than 35 years.

I promise to devote exclusive attention to judicial duties by terminating private practice. This court deserves that level of attention and avoidance of distractions and possible conflicts; it’s a probate court of the highest level and the judge’s annual salary is $125,726, plus benefits. The issues presented to the judge, whether in deciding the intent and language of a will or deciding and evaluating conservatorships and guardianships, warrant full attention. Those who come before the court deserve no less.

In reviewing these issues as part of the consolidation and reform process of the Connecticut Probate system, the Legislative Committee tasked with the study affirmed this view. Unfortunately the contemplated prohibition against continued private practice wasn’t included in the final bill, which ultimately consolidated the numerous courts. If elected, I’ll impose that recommendation on myself.

As to my qualifications, I have the maturity, life experiences, and professional background and expertise to justify the honor of being the next judge of this court. I have represented hundreds of probate and estate planning clients in the course of 35 years. I’ve tried cases before judges and juries in state and federal courts. I know the rules of evidence, important during contested hearings that often develop in the court. I have the necessary calm demeanor and personality to be fair and impartial. I encourage your readers to vote for me on Nov. 7.
