Lead with Compassion

As a longtime Chester resident and former selectman, I encourage my fellow residents to re-elect Lauren Gister as first selectman and Charlene Janecek as selectman. Each has extensive experience and a record of service. Their knowledge, management and operational skills are exceptional. Both have an in-depth understanding of Chester’s inner daily workings and financial health as well as the challenges that lie ahead. They will work tirelessly to protect taxpayers.

Gister also spends many evenings at board and committee meetings, and she also represents Chester with the Connecticut legislature and attends meetings with Middlesex Chamber of Commerce, the River Valley Council of Governments, Council of Small Towns, and Connecticut Conference of Municipalities, and works closely with both closely Deep River’s and Essex’s first selectmen. Gister served in the Marines for 25 years and learned as an officer how to lead, unify others, and get results. As a small business owner, she understands the importance of supporting small businesses and filling our commercial properties.

Janecek has lived in Chester 48 years and is the former owner of the famed Lunch Box for 28 years. She has served on many boards and committees, and continues to serve not only as our selectman, but also as a member of the Main Street Committee, Chester Hose Co. Auxilliary and Fire Commission. Her years of dedicated service has given her an understanding and intimate knowledge of Chester and its residents.

Both Gister and Janecek attended all Board of Finance meeting and budget workshops over the past two years, with few exceptions. They are both honest and lead with compassion, not fear, and are blind to any one’s political persuasion. The same holds true for the Democratic slate of candidates who are experienced, knowledgeable, and caring, all serving for the common good of Chester.
