Knowledge, Enthusiasm, and Experience

I write this letter in support of the candidacy of Stephen Sheehan for Old Saybrook first selectman.

I have know Steve for most of his professional life. He is a highly effective and respected lawyer. I was fortunate to be his law partner early in his career, until he chose to enter a law partnership with his wife Peg—a wise choice!

Steve’s legal skills will serve the town well. He analyzes problems, develops solutions, and sees things through. These skills are required to meet the challenges that loom ahead. Old Saybrook is not immune to the economic, demographic, and environmental uncertainties we face. Hard choices need to be made on numerous fronts. Priorities need to be established. Steve is prepared to meet these challenges from day one in office. He is enthusiastic and a tireless worker. These attributes are essential to the 24/7 nature of the first selectman’s job.

Steve is prepared to serve because of his professional training, his participation in local government, and his personal skills and experience. He listens not just to his own voice, but to the voices of others. He not only listens, but understands.

He and Peg have worked and raised their family here. His three children have attended Old Saybrook schools. Steve has served in various town government positions. This provides tremendous insight for any candidate, but particularly for the first selectman.

I would be remiss if I didn’t also express my support for Carol Conklin for selectman and for Barry O’Nell and Donna Nucci for Board of Finance. I have known each of them personally for many years. They also have the knowledge, enthusiasm, and experience required for the offices they seek.

The Democrats have provided an outstanding slate of candidates worthy of our votes.
