11/01/2017 08:00 AMOver the past six years, I’ve been privileged to serve the townspeople of Killingworth as a member of the Board of Selectmen. In this capacity I have had the honor and unique perspective of working very closely with Cathy Iino to manage our town government. You can’t argue with success. The simple fact is that Cathy has run our town extraordinarily well, and for this reason, I am supporting her for re-election as first selectman for the Town of Killingworth.
Cathy is an individual of tireless commitment to the people of Killingworth. She is a caring, sensitive, and compassionate individual who is never too busy to listen. She is a problem solver who takes time to consider perspectives and alternatives. She will act swiftly and decisively when she needs to, but she would rather build consensus and buy-in. She has worked collegially to vastly improve communication and coordination among town committees and agencies.
Over the past six years, I’ve seen Cathy carefully manage the town’s precious tax dollars. The result has been nearly flat budgets that have minimized the need of tax increases.
Of late, the small and well-run towns of the State of Connecticut such as Killingworth have become a target for the failed state budget. At a time when leadership is a scarce commodity, Cathy has stepped up by staunchly defending our town and demanding that our state leader seek alternatives to increasing our taxes and decreasing funding to the towns.
Cathy has found budget savings year after year, improved and expanded recreational and public safety facilities, initiated programs such as weekly senior lunches, and created a fitting, permanent monument to Killingworth’s veterans.
For these achievements; for her honesty, integrity, and leadership; and for her 60-hour work weeks, Cathy Iino deserves your readers’ votes on Nov. 7.
