Gets the Message

I wanted to take a moment to refute a statement made by Matt Hoey’s campaign in a recent mailer sent to Guilford residents. Mr. Hoey’s campaign claims that he helped in the passage of a “budget eight years in a row on the first vote.” While this statement may be factually accurate at some point during Mr. Hoey’s career in government, over the past decade, voters of Guilford have rejected budget proposals approved by Mr. Hoey.

With constantly changing fiscal needs and dysfunction at the state level, the voters of Guilford have been reluctant to approve automatic budget increases in recent years. Instead, residents have sent a clear message to town leaders that they need to promote fiscal responsibility and not rely on the same old way of budget escalators and increased spending. In his discussion with residents, Ken MacKenzie has made it clear that he gets this message and will make it the focus of the town’s budgeting process if elected.
