Financial and Educational Experience

I have been first selectman in Madison for almost two years and in that time we, as a town, have faced several challenges. Working creatively with dedicated town employees and various boards and commissions, we have successfully dealt with one problem after another and today our town continues to be in excellent financial condition.

Because of the ongoing state budget fiasco, we are looking ahead at various scenarios to be sure that we are prepared for whatever the governor and/or the legislature may try to foist upon us. One thing is for sure: If the state tries to pawn off their problems on us, we will resist with whatever means we need to. I am a member of the executive board of the Council of Small Towns and will be joining the board of directors of the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities, both of which are statewide organizations that will work with towns and cities for fairness to all municipalities.

I don’t ever bring politics or political parties into my letters to the editor or my bi-weekly columns, but now I’m asking for your readers’ help in keeping our town strong by electing the Republican team we have assembled for next week’s election. Bruce Wilson and Jean Ferris will be valuable partners on the Board of Selectmen. Peter Roos, Jean Fitzgerald, and Ken Kaminsky are running for the Board of Finance and Jessica Bowler, Kirk Barneby, and Violet McNerney are running for the Board of Education. This team will bring an incredible combination of financial and educational experience to these boards, and will help us continue to make prudent choices as we face new challenges. Extraordinary times call for extraordinary people.
