A Solid Understanding

As a millennial living in Old Saybrook, I recognize that the decisions made in our town today will be major factors in deciding whether or not I will continue to call this place my home for years to come. One of the ways in which we have significant control over the current and future character of Old Saybrook is through our land use boards and commissions. The intelligent application of long term sustainable plans for conservation and development of land in Old Saybrook will help ensure the success and vitality of our town.

The Old Saybrook Zoning regulations are a substantial body of work, 352 pages of regulations, to be exact. These regulations have been written thanks to years of hard work by commission members, town zoning officials, and seasoned land use attorneys. It’s important that our commission members have a solid understanding of the regulations and thus there’s no replacement for experience when it comes to electing candidates for the Zoning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals. Robert Friedmann, Gerri Lewis, and Kevin Danby have a combined five decades of land use experience between them. Each has spent no less than a decade on his or her respective board or commission. It’s paramount that we re-elect these three experienced candidates.

There are many towns across the country with geography similar to Old Saybrook, yet we have been able to stand out as a special place. Our success can be attributed to commission members like Robert Friedmann, Gerri Lewis. and Kevin Danby, who have worked tirelessly to support the Town Plan of Conservation and Development. By supporting these three candidates, we are supporting the continued success of the well-thought-out land use policies that have continually set Old Saybrook apart as truly special place to live.
