A Perfect Fit

Today marks the one-year anniversary of my mom’s passing. I felt I wanted to honor her in some way today. As many know, my mother loved teaching the arts and music. The other thing she loved was politics. Mom served on Guilford’s Democratic Town Committee for years.

If mom was alive today she would be spending her time making phone calls at the Democratic headquarters for Matt Hoey for first selectman. Mom along with Matt’s mom and dad worked together at the Boston Public Library back in the ’40s. Funny that in the ’60s they all end up in Guilford.

Sadly as many of you may not know Matt lost his mom way too early in life. Devastating I’m sure for Matt and I know it was hard on my mom as she lost a friend to whom she was so close.

As the years had gone on I always enjoyed watching my mom and Matt talk about his mom and they would laugh and smile. I know for Matt it kept his mom’s spirit alive and I know my mom enjoyed telling him the stories of there youth.

Matt’s the candidate for first selectman. His years of service on the Board of Finance are a perfect fit for him to be out next first selectman. I just wish my mom was alive to be part of this; I know she would be so proud and I know she would tell Matt that his parents would be so very proud, too!
