A Balancing of Representation

Important decisions will soon come before the Board of Finance (BOF) as town finances become more challenged than ever. I am supporting Judith Friedman (Democrat) and Owen Charles (Green) for BOF because they are both outstanding candidates, and I’d like to see a balancing of representation on the BOF and across all town boards, ensuring good governance in town with all points of view being heard.

Having put herself through college and law school, Jude raised her son in Madison for the past 18 years. She is an elected member of the Board of Assessment Appeals, and an appointed member of each of the town’s three pension committees. With a varied litigation practice for 31 years, Jude’s legally and financially rigorous background and expertise will enhance the deliberations of the BOF.

Owen has lived in Madison with his wife and three children for 13 years. He holds an MBA and registered nursing degree, has spent two decades in clinical research corporate budget management, and is skilled in analyzing spending priorities in the context of balancing costs and benefits. Owen served previously on the BOF (2007-2009), and as BOF liaison to the Library and Police commissions.

With their public-focused perspective, Owen and Jude will promote greater transparency and public input on critical issues. They support investments that will reap both financial and quality of life long-term benefits: keeping Madison affordable for seniors, middle class, and lower-income families; using the Academy school for public good and as the people of Madison would like; a strong safe school system; and sensible economic development.

I encourage your readers to join me in promoting balanced decision making and ensuring all voices be heard in our town government by voting for Judith Friedman and Owen Charles for BOF.
