Will Speak Up

The state budget crisis is hitting home—to your home and mine. We will all be paying the price for the state budget woes. In an Oct. 4 article on Zip06.com [“Shoreline Officials Urge State Budget Veto Override”], several of our neighboring town officials were quoted as speaking out against [Governor Dannel Malloy’s] proposal to pass on to the small towns what will amount to a significant tax increase for the residents of those towns. That translates to you and me.

First selectmen from Madison, Guilford, Durham, and Branford all spoke out against the impact the governor’s proposal will have on their residents. They are urging a state budget veto override. They denounce the state burdening small towns with cuts in municipal aid that will result in millions of dollars of loss to the towns.

Fred Dudek, candidate for first selectman, has been carefully monitoring the state budget and has some ideas to lessen the tax burden that could be passed on to each of us. Fred will speak up for Killingworth. His proposal of a priority-based budget will prioritize expenditures and not automatically increase budget line items. He knows we can save tax dollars by sharing costs of goods and services with neighboring towns. The fire service already has this practice in place with fire apparatus and equipment.

I know I can count on Fred. Killingworth needs his leadership. I will vote for Fred on Nov. 7 and I encourage your readers to vote for him, too.
