Proven Consensus-Building

In light of the challenging times facing Guilford and other local municipalities due to the state’s current fiscal crisis, I am grateful that we have a candidate running for first selectman who, as a seasoned chairman of our Board of Finance, has played a leadership role in placing our town on a very sound financial footing, helped turn Guilford into one of the top school districts in the state, championed a critical tax freeze program for budget-challenged senior citizens, and fought to preserve thousands of acres of land that has allowed Guilford to preserve its distinct historic rural and village flavor.

I am also comforted in knowing that Matt Hoey, who has served as Board of Finance chairman for more than two decades and run the board on a very bipartisan basis, will, as first selectman, bring to that position an unprecedented level of experience, knowledge, management competency, and a proven consensus-building track record that is essential to addressing the challenging and complex issues that will face Guilford in the next four years.
