My name is Joe Deko, I am a Democrat running for Town Council in District 2 alongside mayoral candidate Sal Maltese. I am writing to clarify some misconceptions that I have heard while on the campaign regarding the beach issues.

There is case law in Connecticut that prevents us from denying entry to the beach to any non- residents. Over the last few months, I have been working with our neighbors at the Momauguin/Cosey Beach Neighbors Association (a completely open and public group of neighbors who meet monthly with town officials regarding the beach neighborhoods) along with my runningmates Joe Santino and Nick Palladino. Together the entire group has set up a solution to some of the beach issues and were able to schedule a public hearing date in front of Town Council on Nov. 14! Keep in mind, this will not happen overnight, but the first step is getting a public hearing and getting the voices of our neighbors heard. A lot of hard work by the association has gone into this to make change, and am very proud to be a part of it. These meetings are not a political setting.

We have a beautiful beach and we should make every effort to keep it beautiful and keep it clean for the neighbors of Momauguin.

On Nov. 7, I encourage your readers, if they want councilmen who are 100 percent devoted to East Haven, with outstanding attendance records to meetings and no plans of leaving East Haven, to vote Row A for Sal Maltese and our entire slate.
