Intelligent and Hard Working

After 30-plus years as a Clinton resident, I am overjoyed to have this year’s choices. Previously, before I retired my job, house maintenance and family left me with little time to follow local issues.

Then one November day as I crossed the parking lot behind Town Hall, Kirk Carr, the 2017 Republican candidate for first selectman, greeted me. He explained why he opposed the candidates and tax increases on that year’s ballot. He was pleasant and professional, not the normal in-your-face voter supporter.

I always had conservative leanings, especially when money was involved. I began to attend occasional Board of Selectman meetings and was impressed by Kirk’s constant attendance and comments regarding the issues.

I first met Phil Sengle, the 2017 Republican candidate for selectman, when we were both taking physical therapy after heart bypass surgery. He was always the first one there and the first finished. He was friendly and willing to discuss public events regarding Clinton with me. All the staff and clients liked Phil. He was also a frequent attendee and participant in Clinton town meetings.

Another individual I came to admire was Jeffery Cashman, the 2017 candidate for Planning & Zoning Commission alternate. Jeff was a staple at Cashman Hardware and his Sprucey Hill Farm. He volunteered his time and equipment to Clinton events. He was always a voice of reason and truth at town meetings. Jeff Cashman was always there to help people in need.

We will never find three more intelligent or hard working individuals than Kirk Carr, Phil Sengle, or Jeff Cashman.
