Fresh Perspective and New Approach

As chief administrative officer for the Town of Stonington, my work with Republican and Democratic first selectmen ensured the wellbeing of employees and the community. Essex and Stonington share similar economic profiles: tourist destinations, riverfronts, villages, and restaurants. My experiences bring a best-practices approach as first selectman of Essex.

Based on my community service and positions on the boards of Finance and Selectmen, it’s evident there’s a need to work collaboratively to chart the future course of Essex in rough economic waters.

My first priority is to provide leadership on issues that adversely impact our town by challenging Governor Dannel Malloy and the Democratic-controlled legislature to enact policies and budgets that encourage economic growth for Essex. I’d oppose any effort to saddle taxpayers with a supplemental tax bill.

The governor’s budget is contrary to the best interests of Essex residents and taxpayers. The voice of local leadership must be heard throughout the budget process and effective partnership must be established with our state representatives.

My second priority is implementing a paving management system where our roads are surveyed, rated, and prioritized for rehabilitation. This approach takes the politics out of paving, providing a strategic planning and budgetary tool for future road maintenance.

Third, we must drive improvements in the quality of life in our villages despite the headwinds from Governor Malloy and Democratic-controlled state legislature. A review of zoning regulations can ensure they provide both a foundation and roadmap for driving commercial growth consistent with our local economy.

After knocking on more than 1,000 doors, one message is resoundingly clear: A fresh perspective and new approach for Essex is essential. Further, they ask for my commitment to performing the job of first selectman. I’ll be a full-time first selectman for Essex.

On Nov. 7, I ask for your readers’ votes.

Vincent Pacileo III
