Building Strong Relationships

My name is Lynn R. Hidek, Democratic candidate of the Clinton Board of Police Commissioners. Living and working in Clinton for four decades has taught me the value of community: building strong relationships. I am eager to share that focus as a member of the Clinton Police Commission, and ask for your readers’ votes on Nov. 7.

In terms of public safety, building strong relationships is critical. Our Clinton Police Department (CPD), led by Chief Vincent DeMaio, is staffed with individuals who are actively building those community ties. Clinton’s citizens can count on the CPD at every stage in their lives, from checking the safety of infant car seats to teaching kids about cyber-bullying to protecting seniors from Internet scams.

We are enhanced by officers who can use bilingualism to effectively communicate with those who struggle with English, and reassure them that they are a valued part of our community in Clinton.

Strong relationships protect our officers as well. When citizens have easy, connected interactions with our team of police officers, Clinton can be assured that their officers won’t face an “us vs. them” relationship that puts police in peril. My late husband, TFC Ed Hidek of the Connecticut State Police, always effectively wove service to the town with his work as a trooper. I would hope my experience as the wife of an officer will be an asset to the families of Clinton’s officers.

The Clinton Board of Police Commissioners is the advisory body of citizens that counsels and supports our department. Its members represent a cross-section of the community, committed to enhancing public safety through fair-minded, bipartisan, collaborative decision-making. It would be a privilege for me to serve Clinton in the role.
