A Steady Leader

As many are well-aware, the Connecticut legislature has yet to pass a statewide budget for the 2017-’18 fiscal year. Municipalities across the state are searching for ways to close the gap and provide the same level of services and programs to their citizens. Not one town knows the financial future that it faces, nor can it do anything about it.

In a time of such uncertainty, it is important to have a steady leader at the helm. First Selectman Carl Fortuna knows how the town’s budget operates and understands how to utilize our limited resources in a cost-effective manner. He has renegotiated pensions and healthcare programs and cut excess spending within the town. Carl has also acquired millions in state and federal grants in the last three years, allowing Old Saybrook to thrive despite the dysfunction in Hartford.

With still no budget and imminent state budget cuts, I trust Carl’s steady and battle tested leadership. I encourage your readers to vote Fortuna, Selectman Scott Giegerich, and Treasurer Bob Fish on Nov. 7.
