Personal Glory and Power

In my opinion, we registered Guilford Republican Party members should hang our heads in shame. Through apathy, indifference, and conceit, we have allowed a 20 percent minority of the party to steal the first selectman candidacy for an inappropriate individual. His performance at the Sept. 18 Republican Town Committee meeting, as reported in the Sept. 28 issue of the Guilford Courier [“MacKenzie Asks Havrda to Leave Guilford Republican Ticket”], showed that his agenda seems to be personal glory and power rather than a cohesive party slate. It is a travesty of logic to think a person with such an outlook on management should ever hold a position of Guilford selectman, especially that of the first selectman post.

However, this is history and the challenge is to move forward doing what is best for Guilford. I myself will be splitting my vote for the first time in my 68 years as a registered Republican Party member. I will be voting for Matt Hoey for first selectman and the sterling Republican slate for the remaining offices to be filled. I heartily recommend any other concerned Republican Party members do the same. Mr. Hoey has shown great cooperation across the aisle in the past and will continue to do so if elected.

No matter what your readers’ affiliation is, I hope they will vote their conscience on election day. A large voter tally will truly represent the choices of the population of Guilford.
