Must Be Accountability

My husband Robert Anania grew up in East Haven and we’ve lived here for the past 32-plus years. Our daughters have gone through the East Haven schools. He’s a hard worker, supports his family, and volunteers a lot of time to many town organizations. My husband is being slandered, his integrity attacked and disrespected. Political colleagues have said that he was at an annual carnival, campaigning for the opponent; rumors are going around on what he has said or where he has been.

As a council person, he had questions and concerns with the budget. There must be accountability—that was the job he was elected to do. He bases his decision and vote on what’s best for his district and town for the past 11-plus years. He won’t ask for any favors from anyone, because he doesn’t want to owe anyone.

We cannot be friends with or talk to our neighbors—they have the wrong lawn signs. We cannot talk or visit with friends—it’ll be viewed wrong. If my husband wanted to be a member of the other party, he would have switched. I encourage your readers to vote for the person who’s going to best represent their district and town. Voters should go to Town Hall and look up the meeting minutes for boards of Finance and Education, and Town Council. (These records are free to look at and it’s our right). Look at the votes and look at the reason the person voted that way.

My opinion is that once you’re elected to office, you’re no longer a Republican or a Democrat. I encourage your readers to vote for who they believe will do the best job for your town. They don’t have to vote for all Democrats or all Republicans—they can split their votes.
