Making a Difference

Nancy Shepard Gatta and Steve Pernal are running in the November election for positions on the Parks & Recreation Commission. Both candidates have spent most of their lives in Old Saybrook, graduating from Old Saybrook schools, participating in Park & Rec programs, and playing sports on various Old Saybrook athletic teams. As adults, Nancy and Steve have been actively involved with our youth. They have volunteered their time to assist with Park & Rec programs, assuming both coordinating and coaching roles. They have served as board members and coaches for organizations such as Old Saybrook Little League and Travel Basketball. In addition, Nancy is a top field hockey umpire, and Steve devotes his energies to children as a physical education teacher. The bottom line is that these two Democratic candidates are invested in making a difference for our community’s children.

If given the opportunity to serve on the Parks & Recreation Commission, Nancy and Steve will not disappoint. Along with her extensive sports background, Nancy possesses management skills, is attentive to detail, and is always ready to go the extra mile. Steve possesses essential leadership skills, the ability to be a team player, and willingness to serve at any capacity. The Old Saybrook Parks & Recreation Department’s motto of “Bringing our community together through excellence in our beaches, parks, fields, facilities, and programs” exactly explains what Nancy and Steve will do.

I encourage all Old Saybrook residents to vote on Nov. 7 to ensure that candidates Nancy and Steve will have the opportunity to serve our fine community.
