Honesty, Acumen, and Desire

I write in support of Carol Conklin’s candidacy for selectman of Old Saybrook. I have known Carol for more than 30 years and have been impressed by her honesty, business acumen, and overall desire to make Saybrook a better community in which to live.

I first met Carol when my wife and I owned Harbor Books and she opened Sugar Plum’s Sweet Shop. Carol was an early member of the Main Street Business Association and helped to make it a strong economic force in the region by promoting such events as the Saybrook Stroll. I immediately noted her enthusiasm and willingness to take on any task that would help the business community.

More recently, as a selectman, Carol has worked tirelessly on the town’s Mariner’s Way project and as chair of the Economic Development Commission. She has been instrumental in such recent town initiatives as encouraging new bench donations, promoting “Wednesdays in Old Saybrook” with the Chamber of Commerce, and working with the Board of Finance to put into place a first-ever marketing budget for town promotions.

I encourage voters to join with me in re-electing Carol Conklin to the Old Saybrook Board of Selectman on Nov. 7.
