Forward-Thinking Leadership

I support First Selectman Carl Fortuna, Selectman Scott Giegerich, and Treasurer Bob Fish for re-election for lots of reasons, but let me highlight a few.

I worked all my life in the private sector. Over the years, so many companies have gone bankrupt due to promises that cannot be kept: pensions that guarantee a monthly payout and health insurance that has become unaffordable. One does not have to look far to see what over-promising can do to finances. The State of Connecticut is a financial wreck for exactly these reasons.

Carl’s administration has addressed these long-term liabilities here in Old Saybrook. He has implemented a 401k-style pension plan for all new employees, one that also allows current employees to join in. He has negotiated all town employees onto a high-deductible health plan, something the private sector turned to long ago.

Changing times require forward-thinking leadership. For this reason, I am voting for Carl, Scott, and Bob. I encourage your readers to join me.
