Evaluate the Qualifications

Whenever my name appeared as the writer of a letter to the editor, my older brother would chide me, “I see you were in the funny papers again.” From his prospective, they had humor and truth.

One example is of a candidate for the Board of Education offering self-endorsement with the use of the word “I” 16 times [Erica Gelven]. Is that funny, or sad? Or, incumbent First Selectman Bruce Farmer offering, three times in print, a self praise item that, “I hit the ground running!”

My conclusion is that most endorsements serve little to educate. The opportunity and responsibility is your readers’ to evaluate the qualifications of a candidate for Clinton’s first selectman. Would you agree with these three?: Skilled in finance, a superior IQ, and demonstrated service to our town.

A third brother phrased it, “For first selectman in Clinton we need a new model, Carr.”
