An Informed Voter

Voters in Old Saybrook have an opportunity to make informed decisions on whom to vote for in our local election on Nov. 7. Our lives are so busy that there seems no time to attend town meetings. We rely on text messages, Instagrams, Twitter, online news (fake or real}, and emails to serve as the basis for making our decisions. We get so caught up in this media blitz that we have become leery of everyone and everything.

Old Saybrook voters have an opportunity to form their own opinions on whom they want to represent them on a local level. Board of Selectman, Board of Finance, Police Commission, town meetings, and WPCA meetings are all available any time day or night for review via cell phone, computer, or iPad. You just need to make a little time. Go to the search line on your browser, type in “youtube old saybrook,” push enter, and all the meetings will be listed. Choose the meeting you would like to review, click on it, and watch your representatives in action. The best part is that you can fast-forward through items that do not interest you and a two-hour meeting can be viewed in much less time.

I urge all voters to take the time to view some of these meetings, become familiar with the town’s current issues, and become acquainted with the representatives who are currently serving them. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a video is worth an informed voter.

I encourage your readers to vote for me, Barry O’Nell, for the Board of Finance on Nov. 7. The rest of our Democratic candidates on the top line also deserve their vote.

Barry S. O’Nell

Old Saybrook

Democrat Barry O’Nell is seeking re-election to the Board of Finance.
