An Extraordinary Time

This certainly is an extraordinary time for Connecticut and Madison. The decades-long failure of our state to address its fiscal realities by cutting spending and sufficiently funding state pension liabilities has caught up with the legislature. State elected officials struggle to produce a budget that Governor Dannel Malloy will agree to sign. Madison, already dealing with a significant decline in student enrollment, is bracing for uncertain cuts to education aid as well as cuts to other state grants.

This is an exceptional time for our town and requires we elect exceptional candidates to lead Madison through these challenges. I am very proud to endorse the 2017 Republican slate of candidates. Led by First Selectman Tom Banisch, this slate is a cross-section of veteran community leaders and new volunteers with incredible résumés. I encourage your readers to take the time to check out this exceptional group of Madison candidates for office.

I am so pleased that at a time when we need help navigating a new fiscal reality of our state, these folks have stepped up to help move our town forward. I encourage your readers to join me in supporting Jean Ferris and Bruce Wilson for Board of Selectmen; Violet McNerney, Jessica Bowler, and Kirk Barneby for Board of Education; and finally for the Board of Finance Jean Fitzgerald, Peter Roos, and Ken Kaminsky. Exceptional times call for exceptional leaders! I encourage your readers to vote on Nov. 7.

State Representative Noreen Kokoruda (R-101)
