A Very Solid Individual

It’s the right time and the right guy. I’ve known Matt Hoey for nearly 30 years; our kids went through the school system together, he and I coached youth sports for many years, and I have always valued our friendship, Matt is a very solid individual. He has given more to Guilford over the last quarter century than almost anyone I know.

While I can say I have never attended a Board of Finance meeting, I often watch many of the meetings on GCTV, perhaps a commentary on my wild lifestyle. I’m always impressed with the manner in which Matt runs the meetings, he seems to do so effortlessly and encourages input from all parties without any hint of partisan politics. Seems like building consensus and doing the right things for the people of Guilford is always paramount to his purpose.

I recently attended a fundraiser at Anthony’s and Matt addressed the crowd with his 10-minute stump speech, no notes and straight from the heart. He concluded that he’s given 25 years to the town of Guilford and that he wasn’t done giving. His audience erupted with immediate applause and for good reason. They know as I do that my good friend Matt Hoey is the right guy at the right time for our great town.

I encourage voters to elect Matt Hoey as our next first selectman on Nov. 7.
