In Good Fiscal Health

I am very concerned that the election on Nov. 7 could result in Democrats having complete control of our town’s budget. If Matt Hoey wins the race for first selectman, we can expect Democrats to do what Democrats always do: lose control of spending and make it ever more expensive to live in the town we love.

The last time Democrats controlled all three boards, we came near to a fiscal disaster. Heaven knows where we would be now if Republicans had not regained control of the Board of Selectman (BOS) under First Selectman Joe Mazza.

While Republicans have held the BOS, tax increases have been more moderate and, through good governance and prudent spending, our town is in good fiscal health again.

This has been accomplished while maintaining all services to residents with many improvements, and with no layoffs of town employees. We also have a new high school, which will be paid off early (20 years instead of 30), thus reducing the interest costs we taxpayers will have to bear.

How sad it would be to risk all that has been accomplished by turning our town over to tax and spend Democrats.
