Good Communicator and Critical Thinker

I am a current member of the Old Saybrook Board of Finance and I will be voting for Barry O’Nell this Nov. 7 to continue as a member of this board. I have known Barry personally for 15 years and professionally for eight years as a member of the Board of Finance.

Barry is a good communicator and critical thinker; he diligently reviews all department budgets and is in tune with the needs of the town. He believes in the transparency of government and personally initiated filming of town meetings, which today is a routine, allowing citizens unable to attend to review town meetings from their computers via YouTube. Barry works well with all members of the board in the best interest of the town as a whole, and continually searches for metrics that provide justification for services and expenses.

Barry’s participation goes beyond just attending bi-monthly meetings, as he has been an observing member of two town union negotiations, and upon the request of the members of the finance board has agreed to serve as a member of a subcommittee to write a request for quote (RFQ) and select a firm to review police operations in town.
