Costly and Disruptive

The outgoing first selectman Joe Mazza and his allies sure seem to love pet projects, an example of which is the raising of Long Hill Road. In the 2 ½ decades that I’ve lived here, I recall the creek flooding this road two times. What a costly and disruptive project for such an aberrant event. The citizenry should be aware that this project is running between $3.3- and $4 million.

Other examples of pet projects include the proposed Shoreline Greenway Trail and the Nut Plains/State Street sidewalk expansion. Mr. Mazza and company love to point out that the town is receiving state funding, as if this money is free. We all need to remember that Guilford is part of Connecticut and these are projects that some might want, but don’t need. Ironic that the current administration is so critical of our governor and the fiscal crisis of the state, but still puts its collective hand out for money for these pet projects.

I am supporting Ken MacKenzie for first selectman of Guilford. I believe that our town needs to rid itself of the type of cronyism that has plagued our Guilford for years.
