A Record of Public Service

I am writing this letter to encourage your readers to support Charles Havrda for re-election to the Board of Selectmen. Many of your readers will recall the dire financial straits the town was in when Havrda began his first term on the Board of Selectmen eight years ago. The fund balance was seriously depleted and the town’s credit rating was at risk. This was all coming at a time when we were about to enter the financial markets to borrow money for a new high school.

Largely through the efforts of Havrda and First Selectman Joe Mazza , and with critical support from the Board of Finance, the fund balance was restored to a prudent level and our credit rating was stabilized. Consequently, the town was able to save millions of dollars in the cost of financing the new high school.

Havrda has a record of public service in Guilford going back several decades. He was a member of the Charter Revision Commission in 2000 and 2006. He served four years on the Inland Wetlands Commission, six years on the Planning & Zoning Commission, and six years on the Economic Development Commission, serving for two years as chairman.

Quite simply, there is no more qualified or deserving person seeking to be re-elected to public office in Guilford than Charles Havrda. I encourage your readers to support him in November.
