Sound and Ethical Decisions

My name is Ed Tessman and I’m an incumbent running for another four year term on the Board of Police Commissioners for the Town of Clinton. It has been my pleasure to serve the Town of Clinton, its residents, and the men and women of the Clinton Police Department.

As a resident of Clinton for more than 20 years, I’m proud to represent this community and serve in this distinguished capacity. Small-town politics is never easy. As a police commissioner, I have at times been encouraged by others to vote a certain way on issues facing the commission. In each of those cases, those lobbying efforts always carried with it a misplaced or personal agenda. I believe that my voting record over the last four years speaks for itself and that I have served the Town of Clinton well. At the end of the day, it is not about being a Democrat, a Republican, or an Independent and voting along party lines; it’s about doing the right thing for the Town of Clinton, its citizens, and the Clinton Police Department.

One of my proudest achievements over the last four years was driving change and transforming the face of the department. Ensuring that the police chief recruitment process was open to the public and that we looked beyond the department to fill the vacancy was critical to our success and continued growth of the Clinton Police Department.

Despite my having a master’s degree in criminal justice, serving as a Police Commissioner doesn’t require a law enforcement background to be effective. It requires common sense and the ability to make sound and ethical decisions based on facts.

I’m happy to serve another four year term and serve at your readers’ pleasure. I thank them for their trust and support.
