Passionate but not Partisan

On Nov. 7, the voters of Madison have the opportunity to ensure the highest quality education for our children by electing Emily Rosenthal to the Board of Education.

I have had the pleasure of working with Emily for the last five years and know her to be bright, energetic, and committed to the well-being of Madison and of our young people, in particular. She has a spectacular résumé for this position, with degrees from the finest universities and extensive administrative experience in higher education. For a relative newcomer to town, she has a deep knowledge of Madison, having served as president of the Madison Newcomers and currently serving as a member of the Beach & Recreation Commission. And as the mother of two young children, aged 4 and 8, she has a intense and personal interest in the excellence of our schools.

Emily is a problem solver, a collaborator, and a consensus builder. She will bring a new perspective, thoughtful intelligence, and open-minded curiosity to the Board of Education. As she has done in all her political and civic work, she will emphasize open and accessible communication and information sharing with the community, and she will find new ways to ensure that all parents and taxpayers have a voice in the critical discussions about the direction of the Madison Public Schools.

Emily represents the future of Madison: passionate but not partisan, questioning but pragmatic, sharply analytic but profoundly empathetic and warm. She has already brought many newcomers into Madison’s political and civic life and, by her example, will inspire many more to become involved.

I proudly support Emily Rosenthal for Board of Education and encourage all your readers to join me on Nov. 7 in voting for this champion of education excellence.
