Facing Some Serious Challenges

Guilford needs Ken MacKenzie as our first selectman. When Ken says that he believes we can find efficiencies and savings in Guilford’s budget, why do some people in town criticize and say “Can’t be done, we must spend more each year to keep the town the way we like it”?

Guilford’s spending increased by more than 70 percent since 2002. What if you turned on all the faucets in your house and let them run continuously? How long would it be before the well is damaged or runs dry? At what point do you ask yourself, “How can we slow down the damage or, more important, whose hand is on the faucet?” In Guilford, Matt Hoey’s hand has been on our faucet as chair of the Board of Finance for 19 years and a member of the board for 26. Is it vanity or a false belief that no one can do it as well as he does that keeps someone there for so long? That concerns me and should concern all of us. A great leader mentors and trains others to take his or her place so new ideas can benefit the people of our town.

Ken MacKenzie sees our well as facing some serious challenges going forward and we cannot keep solving them by increasing our outflow with no limits. Ken will work hard to put some efficiencies in place to protect our town keeping Guilford strong and enabling all of us to be able to stay in our beautiful town.

Ken MacKenzie is the candidate to move Guilford forward with strength, integrity, and care!
