An Independent Thinker

In all of my years in Guilford, I have not known a more honest and hardworking citizen then Ken MacKenzie. I am very happy that he is running for first selectman.

Ken’s opponent is a 25-year incumbent on the Board of Finance whose past record of rubber-stamping tax and spending increases shows that he has neither the will nor the creativity to protect our quality of life without raising taxes year after year, as if our town budget had no waste or inefficiency in it.

MacKenzie is an independent thinker who does not follow the lemmings. This has been demonstrated by his well-researched, solution-oriented challenges to the Board of Finance.

Ken does follow the party line when appropriate; he does not when has determined that such action is not in the interest of Guilford residents.

An independent thinker is not easy to find. The pressures to conform, to go along, are immense. Additionally, there are times when one must decide whether to compromise principle for the sake of expedience. Independent thinkers such as Ken MacKenzie won’t. He is self-contained, so that he can do what is right when the pressures are there to do wrong.

I encourage your readers to choose the right person to sustain Guilford, and to vote for Ken MacKenzie for first selectman.
