Hard-Working and Conscientious

I am supporting Cathy Iino for re-election as Killingworth’s first selectman. As a member of the Parmelee Farm Committee and Inland Wetlands & Watercourses Commission, I have come to know her as a very hard-working and conscientious individual. In the early days as first selectman, she attended many of the meetings of various town committees so as to learn what each does. It has been a pleasure working with Cathy on Parmelee Farm.

One of the first actions Cathy took in office was to arrange to lease the farmhouse at Parmelee to the historical society. When that action was challenged, Cathy scheduled a town meeting that overwhelmingly confirmed that action. Cathy spent the next couple of years under attack for having done that and was ultimately cleared by the state’s attorney’s office.

Cathy worked on several grants for Parmelee, from a small grant for the sign in front of Parmelee to the STEAP grant used to restore the farmhouse.

Cathy has also instructed our building department staff to cooperate fully with Parmelee Farm Committee, and she has run interference on occasion.

Cathy participated in early meetings of the Parmelee Farm Steering Committee, helped negotiate the transfer of the schoolhouse to the farm, and helped negotiate the agreement with Regional School District 17 about use of adjoining property.

Cathy’s work on the Parmelee Farm efforts is just one example of her leadership and dedication to the Town of Killingworth.

I encourage your readers to join me in voting for Cathy Iino for first selectman on Nov. 7th.
