Governance is Serious Business

It’s an honor to serve Clinton. I’m not a politician, rather a businessman committed to volunteering in the private and public sectors for 45 years. Together, we’ve accomplished a great deal in 22 months.

Working 60-plus hours per week, including giving testimony at the capitol against the governor’s ruinous budget and being on call 24/7, requires one’s best efforts. The saying “If you want to get something done, give it to a busy person,” describes me. There are consequences for decisions made as first selectman. Tough, thoughtful, objective decisions must be made and one must do the right thing for our community every day.

Some accomplishments we all made together include: Garnering hundreds of thousands in town grant funding approval for Phase IV of the downtown streetscape; consolidation of services yielding real cost savings; state approval of the train station expansion; a new offer made on Unilever; new interest in the Bostich property and the old Morgan site; a border-to-border sidewalk plan on Route 1; championing the proposed greenway and creating the blueway boating connectivity; installing management protocols and practices; and the grant-funded electric vehicle charging station.

This year’s town-approved infrastructure package will result in three replaced bridges, road and boat launch ramp improvements, marina dredging, and sidewalks to the new Morgan.

In the Nov. 7 election, anyone telling you they’ll lower your taxes isn’t being truthful and unlawful meetings can’t be tolerated. Honesty and openness is paramount. This election must be about our future. We must move forward together while preserving and protecting our quality of life, health, safety, and environment.

Town governance is serious business, not a popularity contest. Our focus must be on education, infrastructure, economic development, and financial sustainability.

Therefore, I’m running again for first selectman as a write-in candidate. I will always fight for Clinton.
