Having served with Matt Hoey for 25 years on our Board of Finance, I am proud to endorse his candidacy for First Selectman.

During the course of our years of service together, I have had many opportunities to observe Matt’s leadership skills. He has always functioned as a truly bipartisan chairman, respecting the views of all board members to build consensus for wise decision-making.

Under his chairmanship, the three elected boards now work cooperatively throughout the year to fashion budgets that respect the needs of taxpayers, ensure the excellence of our educational system, and preserve our quality of life in Guilford.

During his extraordinary tenure as chairman of the Board of Finance, Matt has been instrumental in raising Guilford’s credit rating to AAA status even as he supported substantial improvements to town and school facilities, implementation of the Senior Tax Relief Program, and preservation of our open spaces through new land acquisition.

Over the past 25 years, Matt’s thorough and intelligent approach to the challenges we face have ensured our financial stability while preserving all that we value most about our town.
