Serves as an Example

This November, Killingworth will elect new Board of Education members and we are fortunate to have a highly qualified candidate willing to undertake this most significant task. Kathleen (Kathy) Zandi has a personal and professional background that more than qualifies her for this position.

Kathy has been a resident of Killingworth for 20 years. She has two children currently in our school system and has served as a leader in scouts programs for many years. Her girl scouts (Troop 60779) have been responsible for the annual Killingworth Clean-up Days in the spring.

Kathy’s professional career is extensive and serves as an example for girls who might become involved in science research. She majored in chemistry in college and went on to receive her PhD in organic chemistry. Kathy has been employed by Pfizer in Groton since 1994. She has been in leadership positions there as a supervisor and science team leader. She has been involved in cancer research. Another of her responsibilities has been managing program budgets of $30 million. This particular experience will prove invaluable in working with school budgets.

Value statements Kathy stands by also indicate she would be an excellent addition to the board. She values diversity in many forms (ideas, approaches, interests, and skills). She believes every child deserves an opportunity to excel. She exemplifies the art of teamwork believing that “none of us is as smart as all of us.” She also advocates mentoring as a necessary role for teachers and students.

I encourage your readers to support Kathy Zandi for the Board of Education in November. Her background indicates she is an excellent candidate. She has experience, is dedicated, and is responsible-very important attributes for a Board of Education member!
