I encourage your readers to consider Jack Scherban for a seat on the Board of Selectmen.

He’s dedicated. If you visit our Town Hall, you’ve probably seen Jack. As a member of the Capital Expenditure Committee, Bonding Committee, Police Pension Committee, and chairperson of the Board of Finance (BOF), Town Hall has become Jack’s second home.

He’s knowledgeable. I’ve reached out to Jack for help in understanding town budgets, how state cuts might affect our town, and how they’d affect me personally. Each time, Jack took the time to call, email, or meet me in person to help me better understand town finances. He was able to explain these complex matters to me in terms that even I could understand.

The PTA had questions for Jack regarding education budget cuts. After a long BOF meeting, he still found time to stop by our PTA meeting to answer all of our questions. We all left with a much better understanding of the challenges faced by the boards of Finance and Education.

He’s responsive. I view the pumpout boat as an important asset to the town. When the BOF voted against funding a small portion of the boat, I asked Jack why. I listened to him explain the board’s position; he then very carefully listened to mine. I know he listened carefully, because a few days later, Jack told me that both he and First Selectman Bruce Farmer had met with the state to get a better understanding of the importance of the pumpout boat program. The funding ended up being restored that year.

These qualities make Jack Scherban an asset to Clinton. At the Sept. 12 primary and Nov. 7 election, I encourage your readers to vote for the Democratic Town Committee-endorsed team of Goupil, Scherban, and Guerra as selectmen.
