A Pretty Big Error

How can you misplace nearly $1 million? It seems that is what has happened in East Haven. An amount totaling $918,000 is unaccounted for, according to the minutes of various Town Council meetings. The school department overspent and took that money from somewhere. We really don’t know where. Voters have gone months without a solid explanation.

Why hasn’t Mayor Joseph Maturo, Jr., stepped up and called for a forensic audit?

One member of the Town Council, Mr. Nicholas Palladino, correctly stated that the missing $918,000 is a pretty big error for someone not to be held responsible. He noted that if every municipal department was equally irresponsible the town would quickly go bankrupt.

Does Mr. Maturo know of other departments that have improperly accounted for their spending? Maybe we need a forensic audit of the entire municipal budget. That’s really the only way I will be satisfied that funds have not been misappropriated—or worse.
